Mid 80’s NYC scuzzfest at it’s finest—trash filled cesspool streets and steamy piss filled sidewalks growing with grime crime slop pimps, drugs, and creatures of the night. Didn’t expect to like this movie as much as I did, saw someone on here compare this to Vice Squad, and I’m totally with that... but this thing packs more of an emotional punch if you ask me. Not only is there neon electro funk clubs, booze, drugs, warring pimps, and Julie Numar walking (correction... OWNING) the street in lingerie at age 50+, but I felt so fucking bad for our lead Cookie (Melissa Leo!) and her brother—purgatory tormented by a drunk mother as well as the ‘savior’ character... the unhinged psycho pimp Duke played by Dale Midkiff.Listen... I thought he was one of the weaker links in Pet Semetery, but if I saw him in this I would cast this guy in anything. Talk about full on off the wall nutso human terminator degenerate maniac whackjob... this pathetic rage infested dude goes off the rails real fast and this movie spirals into a real dingwhopper of a final act. Btw the soundtrack was a banger too... plus there’s a theme song!!!The only reason I bought this movie on a whim was because of this insane trailer and I regret nothing—probably won’t be for many of you but this was so up my alley and exactly what I needed tonight.
