The maniacal laughter in old, spooky movies is a lost art form.
After her brother's death, Roma Courtney becomes the heiress to his fortune. When a fake psychic claims to have a message from her dead brother, he coaxes her into participating in a séance. While her fiancé first believes the séance is nothing more than a scam, he eventually realizes that the vengeful spirit of an executed murderer has possessed Roma's body.

if I was the spirit of a maniacal man killer who was executed via electric chair I would also inhabit carole lombard’s body and strangle men on her yacht.
I hooted and hollered so many times during this film but never did I hoot and holler more than in the moment where the ghost of mankiller Ruth Rogen (possessing a rich socialite) lures the man who snitched on her to her old apartment in the city, and when the man naively asks how she knew about this particular place, she says "Oh, a friend of mine lived here" and then pulls a sheet down from a standing frame to reveal that Ruth Rogen kept a massive, lavish, and indulgent full-size painting of herself in her studio apartment. She is without a doubt the greatest character in the herstory of cinemá and I'm still yelling, I still can't breathealso despite this film having some genuinely cool and weird and creepy imagery, half the dialogue is written/delivered like a Homestar Runner sketch and I could not keep it together when Mustachioed Suit Man #3 (there are three of them) rambled about buttered truffles for a literal minute. this movie is 64 minutes long. this movie is 1.5% Mustachioed Suit Man #3's truffle fantasy. god i fucking love it
