This sits somewhere between "Lifetime Original Movie" and "Very Solid Drama."The pros: the characters are well put together, you can get why they're doing what they're doing, the direction is definitely a cut above workmanlike, and the soundtrack provides a good setting of the mood. The cons: the story goes through some mind bending gymnastics to get all of the characters in place and the editing feels like it left some key pieces out. There are definitely some record-scratch inducing "come again now?" moments, particularly early on.So there's pros, there's cons, so what we're left with is, what's up with the story? It's a low key family drama. And I think it was good! The key moment in the story, which I won't give away, you'll sit there and think, "That's not going to happen, is it? Nah. Oh wait ... DON'T DO THAT aw man NO!!!" I dug the open ended conclusion, too. But the overall impression left is that it's generally ok, even if it's on the slightly better side of ok. And that's totally ok! It's probably worth your 95 minutes, even if you come out saying, "It was really just a Lifetime movie."
