Terrestrial

Kevflix And Chill3.5

The less you know about Terrestrial going in, the better—but here’s what I’ll say: Jermaine Fowler plays Allen, a rising-star writer whose weekend reunion with three old college friends (including one possible old flame) starts as a hangout comedy and subtly shifts into… well, something else entirely.Allen is deeply fixated on a cult sci-fi series called The Neptune Cycle, and that obsession ends up informing far more than just his personality. It’s hard to say more without spoiling the ride, but the film rewards a cold watch.Steve Pink directs with a playful sense of rhythm, occasionally pulling off some striking camera moves. It’s a funny and occasionally tense little almost chamber piece that spins out of control. Had a really good time with this one. One of those movies where you can feel the script having some fun, and it’s contagious.Degrees of Kevin Bacon: 21. Jermaine Fowler and Jesse Plemons in Judas and the Black Messiah2. Score : 8.9/10 ✅Seen at Fantasia International Film Festival 2025 -You're gonna be weird by the door, I'm gonna get coffee. If you can. Go in blind. It's seriously good. Some mild spoilers below. We never realize how much a movie can swing from decent to amazing due to its writers and editors. This movie is put together so well that it would be fitting to call it an impressive cascade of team effort. I also want to add that the camera work was fantastic. Moving from one place to another while two things happen simultaneously was so cool and refreshing. Terrastrial starts with a character named Allen who seems to be the biggest fan of a show call The Neptune Cycle. The kind of man who's having all the props displayed in a small room. He even wears the same vest/outfit of his favorite character when he's receiving a group of (long-time-no-see) friends at home. Anyway, you quickly get the gist of it.Where the film gets even more weird and interesting are the long pauses of nonsense Allen is (trying) to pull. Until one fuck up. We are then introduced to a shifting reveal that've been hidden in purpose (during the Q&A, the Director referred this as the 'B-side'). So yeah, basically the movie is divided into two parts, separated by a 'timeframe' title card. You can get the shape of where the story is going because you kind of figured that Allen is weird as fuck — you also get the idea that Allen isn't who he pretends to be. I will stop there because the less you know, the better your experience will be, but this movie is incredibly funny and twisty, so enjoy seeing Allen force himself to control the situation he puts himself in. All credits to Jermaine Fowler. An underrated actor who also happens to be very funny and charismatic; I could have listened to him talk for hours during that Q&A.

FANTASIA #14*World Premiere*Oh goody, it's some contemporary Shakespearean Sci-Fi. It would also plotwise have been the most perfect and somehow more realistic sequel to I SAW THE TV GLOW. The enthusiastic audience and I had a fun time with this.
