Auf dem Weg zu ihrer neuen Stelle an einer Mädchenschule in Transsylvanien landet die junge Lehrerin Marianne im Schloss der Baronin Meinster. Dort lernt sie den Sohn des Hauses kennen, der von seiner Mutter gefangen gehalten wird. Sie lässt sich überreden, ihn zu befreien, was sie jedoch schon bald bereut: Meinster junior entpuppt sich als Vampir und möchte sich an Marianne vergreifen. Auf der Flucht trifft sie den Vampirjäger Van Helsing, der sie zu ihrer Schule bringt und dann den Kampf gegen Meinster aufnimmt.

94Terence Fisher's Brides of Dracula. What a dreamy Gothic film. This is everything that you'd come to expect from the height of Hammer Studios. Such a strong undercurrent of sensuality, and the tension of old myths making their presence known. Costumes, production design, and Fisher's direction - just luscious. It's so colorful and evocative and enjoyable - all in service of giving cobwebbed mansions and vampire blood a boost of life force.
Enjoyable vamp jam with exceptional colors, lavish set design, whispy gothic atmos, and Cushing being Cushing. Always wished Lee returned for this one since I find the blonde guy underwhelming (in comparison) but I can’t complain too much. So much to love about this one and one of my favorite ‘what if’ scenarios... what if Peter Cushing continued a Van Helsing franchise outside of Dracula pictures? Saucy stuff.It's a hammer movie... knowing that you should already know what you’re in for.
