ME SEEING JOHN CAZALE: Uh, weird guyME READING THAT JOHN CAZALE WAS MERYL'S HUSBAND WHO WAS DYING OF CANCER AND SHE ONLY TOOK THE THANKLESS GIRLFRIEND PART IN THIS MOVIE TO BE BY HIS SIDE 24/7 IN HIS LAST DAYS: Oh 🥺The Deer Hunter ends with Meryl singing and a freeze frame. Four stars!
The first half is a bit serious, with the second half a lighthearted trip down easy street. I recommend watching for a time where you need cheering up, and hang on in there till the end.
The film follows three close friends from a small Pennsylvania steel town who enlist in the army to fight in Vietnam, exploring how the conflict deeply alters their lives and their tight-knit community.
Michael Cimino directed this 1978 drama, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture and is widely recognized for its powerful performances.
While it depicts combat, the film functions primarily as a character-driven study on the psychological toll of war on individuals and their relationships rather than focusing solely on battlefield action.
