This was 30% interesting story and 70% nice packagingThe actual history of Ghana is at times sidelined for a saccharine “power of cinema” tale which the filmmakers assume the audience will connect with more. It briefly visits the complexities of Ghana’s decolonization and Africa more broadly, but mostly it paints a surface-level Wikipedia summary of the Ghana’s decolonization.Kris Bowers’ heavy-handed and weepy score dominates the picture. The filmmakers even seem to have staged fireworks for the final film screening. Please cut the pyrotechnics and just lean into the country’s historyWorth noting, this is very audience-friendly, and I’m gonna sound cynical to most viewers
