The best of this film is watching Sean's video that he shot and hearing his diary writings. It makes sense growing out of the origin of the book of his writings, what they say about it being the first gay memoir deriving from pleasure, not based on "overcoming adversity" publishing. I haven't read it, but I'm interested to check out it, and would guess I'd probably ultimately like it better than this documentary. I mean, the film isn't bad. I just wanted more of the diary, with how simply unencumbered they are, talking about dick sizes or how beautiful someone is. It's not about Glue, art career, or anything. Just living. The interviews with those who knew Sean are fine, but can somewhat idle into autopilot doc biography. Nevertheless, it's a solid selection to watch from Frameline, which I haven't really seen popping up at other festivals.
