The Dude "Bummer. That's a bummer man!" I don't even know how to parse this movie cause really it feels tragic but is bookmarked with an interiority of comfort with finding acceptance with her own isolated world full of horded newspapers and empty bottles cluttering up her meager apartment. Sorry I really should mention the she here is Mrs.Ross played exquisitely by Edith Evans(Who rightfully was nominated for an Oscar) as she walks this fine line between reality and imagination which feels by choice to get through the day. Bryan Forbes paints this tragic world of a welfare state in which everyone seems so vicious just to grab a dime that so much humanity is squeezed out before we even get a line of dialogue. I also want to give a shout out to the cinematographer Gerry Turpin who gives us this rich black and white imagery that drips a beautiful misery with every frame. This doesn't always stay on our lead and does pivot about halfway through to showcase a character who I thought was represented by the leaky faucet in the beginning. I hope you taken some Zoloft cause this definitely will have you feeling a deep sadness but that be said it's such a unique "Kitchen Sink" drama that had me just watching the credits and trying to analyze it, hell I'm still trying to wrap my little pirate brain around it. So with that said any film that has you lingering on it is doing something right even if it just softly speaks into your ear.
