i pray on holy water pouring, all clear and glittering and so, so humbled by the purity. i am purified, a man possessed. formerly pure. i cry tears of solid diamond and it cuts my skin and it’s never enough to make up for it. i dream white wings, feathers clipped. i dream heights and sudden lack of height. i dream sacramental bread that melts my tongue and coats my gums and i dream it when sundays roll around, then again the day post. i dream sound and sin and gathered clouds, watching, watching, hearing, knowing. when i wake i clear my faithless face and pay my due. it’s not enough. i drink holy water pouring and choke on the purity. and suddenly i am clear and glittering and so, so humbled as i was cast away to be.
