Andrea Wolper

Andrea Wolper sings “in a milieu that begins with jazz and reaches out to embrace an expressive area that is uniquely her own.” (Heckman, International Review of Music). One of the "great jazz singers" in "The Jazz Singers: The Ultimate Guide" (Yanow; BackBeat Books), Cadence magazine calls her songwriting "easily superior," and she’s been awarded a number of composing fellowships. Wolper performs in the U.S. and abroad. Highlights in her New York home base include the Blue Note, Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, Mezzrow, Zinc Bar, JVC New York Jazz Festival, The Stone, Arts for Arts, and more. Recordings: “Andrea Wolper” (1998), “The Small Hours” (VarisOne.Jazz, 2005), “Parallel Lives” (Jazzed Media, 2011), “Wanderlust” (Moonflower Music, 2024). She also appears on “TranceFormation in Concert” (New Artists Records, 2012) and sings as a featured artist across jazz genres, performing and recording with the Heavenly Big Band, and in many performance and recording projects of William Parker’s. She performed with Jay Clayton’s Different Voices, and recorded for composers Bob Gluck, Vinny Golia, others. Journalism and poetry have appeared in many publications. Among her writing: two books including, "Women's Rights, Human Rights: International Feminist Perspectives" (with Julie S. Peters; Routledge).
