Southern California genre-benders Asi Fui (Long Beach) are set to release their sophomore full-length album, Say So, this Fall via Unit E Records. Known for their lush, beat-driven soundscapes and soul-baring performances, the band has spent the last decade crafting a sound rooted in psych, soul, and atmospheric rock. Formed in 2015, Asi Fui is led by vocalist, bassist, and keyboardist Tatiana Velazquez, guiding listeners through expansive sonic landscapes. Her voice floats over intricate arrangements shaped by Ryan Reiff’s rhythmically diverse drumming and the layered guitar work of Miguel Vasquez and Vincent Mazza (also on bass/keys). Together, they create immersive sonic worlds that feel both expansive and deeply personal. The name Asi Fui—Spanish for “this is how I was” or “this is how I went”—comes from Velazquez’s grandmother, who used the phrase to caption photographs of her youth. The band embraces this sentiment fully, treating each song as a timestamp of the moment it was born. Over the past ten years, Asi Fui has released three EPs (Live: Fernet Session, Gold, and What’s the Best That Can Happen?), a full-length album (Parallelogram), and nine original music videos—all directed by Velazquez herself.
