Carter Arrington

Carter Arrington’s career as a performer and educator has made him one of Austin’s most in-demand guitarists. Raised in Roanoke, Virginia, he began playing at twelve and deepened his commitment to music after attending Berklee’s summer guitar sessions. While still in high school, he studied—and later taught—at the Atlanta Institute of Music before moving to Austin in 2003 to attend The University of Texas, where he immersed himself in the city’s thriving live music scene. In 2006, Carter earned a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance from UT Austin. He continued teaching privately and through UT’s ALMA program while building a diverse performance résumé. His collaborators include The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Progger, Peter Rowan, Kirk Covington, and Eric Johnson, as well as various commercial clients. Career highlights include performing on Progger’s albums “Scattering” and “Dystopia,” appearing in “Motown! The Musical,” headlining Psycho Las Vegas with Arthur Brown, and touring the U.S. in 2017. After relocating to the UK in 2018, he remained active internationally as a performer and recording artist. In 2020, he created the global online course “Tactical Improv” for TrueFire. Recent projects include co-writing “Gamelan Road” with Kirk Covington, recording on Ben Croft's "Far And Distant Things", performing sold-out shows at Ronnie Scott’s, and teaching at Waterbear College of Music. In 2023, he returned to Texas as a jazz guitar professor at Texas State University.
