Claire Ozmun

"This record mirrors me in many ways, but mostly in the ways it is desperately trying to be truthful and sometimes failing. " says Ozmun of her debut record, Always Living Somewhere. Like a migrating bird, "Always Living Somewhere" follows Ozmun hopping between places of respite in some overarching pursuit of Home. A physical home, an internal home, home in the Other. There are moments of recognizing planetary loss, deep platonic loss, familial loss, romantic loss. There are moments of admonishment and moments of taking responsibility, as in the eponymous track "Always Living Somewhere". Lapses in communication and honesty and expectation. The record lives in between mission statements, in between genre, and in between the people who will hear it. A song is never finished, one only decides when it's done, and Ozmun has decided to keep these tracks in close relation to their nascent selves. Bringing them to the band (Lotus Rogers, Izzy Sollohub, Cameron Criss, and Catey Esler) only further nourished and enriched them. The record was largely recorded live and with no scratch vocal, to inch them towards a more honest rendering. There is the amp buzz in "Edgewater" and the laughing in "ZIELLO". The vocals grating with emotion in "Goodman" or "Residue".
