Daniel Rotem

“A listener that plays,” Daniel Rotem is a saxophonist, composer, arranger, producer, and educator. Growing up by the Mediterranean Sea, Daniel fell in love with the freedom and expressive potential of jazz and began playing tenor saxophone as a teenager. He is a graduate of Berklee College of Music and the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz, and has had the privilege of performing or recording with Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Billy Childs, Dianne Reeves, Stevie Wonder, Terri Lyne Carrington, Luciana Souza, Vince Mendoza, Jeff Parker, Larry Goldings, Anthony Wilson, Anat Cohen, and others. Daniel has appeared at festivals including the Monterey Jazz Festival, Playboy Jazz Festival, Red Sea Jazz Festival, and Cape Town International Jazz Festival, and at venues such as Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, the Hollywood Bowl, Microsoft Theater, and Blue Whale. A commissioned and award-winning composer, Daniel has contributed to numerous recordings and scores, including his six albums and the original score for the film Mentally Al. His recent release Wave Nature (Colorfield Records) features Daniel on all instruments with guest appearances by Christian Euman, Anna Butterss, Jonathan Pinson, Erin Bentlage, and Anthony Wilson. An active educator, Daniel has taught at Stanford Jazz, CalArts, USC, LACHSA, and Occidental College. Daniel is a Yamaha Artist and is also endorsed by Gottsu Mouthpieces and D’Addario Woodwinds.
