Underground, νοσταλγικός καλλιτέχνης folk
Using modern instruments and a very personal style, Davagariko (formerly known as Entre Mares) reinterprets the traditional songs sung for centuries by the Sephardic Jews, who were expelled from the Iberian Peninsula and ended up seeking their fortune in areas close to the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. The songs are full of nostalgia and pain, but also of love and hope. Ares Gratal (vocals and saxophone) and Ira Shiran (accordion) are the core of this project. Our first album, entitled "Kuentista", Ladino (Jewish Spanish) for "storyteller", includes 7 traditional Sephardic songs, and 2 original songs composed by Ares, and arranged and produced by Ira, with texts written in Ladino by Ares. This album also features Matt Adomeit on double bass and Péter Somos on percussion, and was recorded by Jonas Fehrenberg in two sessions, one in November 2022 and the second in December 2023 in Berlin.
Davagariko performs traditional and original Sephardic music, sung in Ladino, featuring accordion, saxophone, and percussion.
