Underground καλλιτέχνης soul
Croydon-bred De’Borah Powell’s candid songwriting and arresting vocals encourage listeners through a journey of life, love and truth. Brought up on a nourishing diet of Gospel music and Stevie Wonder classics; with a dose of Joni Mitchell-influenced story-telling, her lyrics are captivating and thought-provoking, painting vivid pictures on a soundscape of love. Balancing softly sung words with unforgettable melodies, she is a multi-layered woman inviting you into a world that is heartfelt and potent, with a beauty unbound. Whilst attending The BRIT School in 2008, De’Borah Powell began publicly performing. In the years that followed, De’Borah released 4 EPs and performed extensively as a solo acoustic act, gracing venues such as the Jazz Café, Fairfield Halls, Southbank Centre and festivals including Greenbelt, Secret Garden Party and Wilderness. Inspired by musicians such as John Mayer, Joni Mitchell, Alicia Keys and Keane, De’Borah's initial sound was also recognised by BBC Radio London, BBC Radio 6 and Radio X. Following performances in Bulgaria, Germany and New York; along with supporting artists such as Leif Vollebekk and Mercury Award Nominee ESKA, in 2015 De’Borah decided to temporarily hit pause on musical pursuits and began a career working with young people. Returning in 2020 with songs like 'Echoes' of Heaven', De'Borah ushers in a new sound springing from the faith and spirituality that has guided her life so far.
