Dee Byrne

Dee Byrne is a UK-based saxophonist, composer and improviser working at the forefront of contemporary jazz, avant-garde and free improvisation. Her music explores the outer edges of jazz, blending acoustic and electronic elements in collaborative settings across the UK and Europe. She leads her Avant-Jazz sextet Outlines, whose debut album was released in June 2023 on Whirlwind Recordings. Dee also composes for MoonMot, a UK/Swiss ensemble whose second album was released on Enja Yellowbird in October 2023, with a tour of India in 2024 leading to a cross-cultural recording project with Indian musicians. A versatile collaborator, Dee is a member of the European quintet Ydivide, performing the music of Swiss drummer Clemens Kuratle. Their second release on Intakt Records came out in February 2025. Her experimental duo DOX with Swiss keyboardist Oli Kuster—featuring guests such as Cyrill Ferrari and Xavier Kaeser—continues to evolve, with a third album coming out in November 2025 on Efpi Records. She also delves into free improvisation through duo projects like Deemer with Dutch sound artist Merijn Royaards—her entry point into using effects pedals—and an evolving acoustic/electronic duo with Cath Roberts. Both duos have released work on Luminous, the artist-run label connected to LUME.
