Escarteen Sisters

Escarteen Sisters: two sisters = two voices + a cello + a viola. They don’t quite make pop, nor exactly folk, jazz, or classical; they create something uniquely their own, where the poetry of words is often the starting point — and the point of takeoff: the interplay of playing and singing at the same time. They have a very distinctive sonic world, shaped by their unusual instrumental setup and by the intimate, raw interaction of two sisters who have been making music together since childhood. The multicultural background of their Catalan–Mexican–Belgian family is one of the core pillars of their work: they sing in the four languages spoken at home, especially Catalan. Since 2015, they have performed across Europe and the Middle East, bringing minority languages such as Catalan and Dutch to other corners of the world.
