Jeremy Mock has been a secret weapon to many bands up and down the East Coast for some time now, offering new context and textures to groups like bloodsports, Wesley Wolffe and People I Love. But when it comes to his own project, face of ancient gallery, Mock plays to the intricacies that weigh the heaviest when caught up in our stillness. As a classically trained guitarist, Mock animates his lyrical instincts amongst haunting progressions and warm instrumentals, pulling the most hidden emotions out of simple atmospheric backdrops and layered harmonies. face of ancient gallery is Mock’s chance to seek embarrassment through writing, allowing the emotions to grow without constraints. With guitar and vocals recorded live and scarcely edited, LP2 is a perception of open space in which Mock searches for silence and the intensity that it can hold when given the time. With the inclusion of his sister Sofia adding harmonies on several tracks, LP2 breathes with delicate guitar voicings and melodic intonations, their two voices caught between intervals of change, loss and reflection – those bits hidden inside that shiver when left uncovered for too long.
