Hamid El Kasri

Hamid El Kasri (born 1961 in Ksar El Kebir, Morocco) is one of the most acclaimed Maâlems (master musicians) of Gnawa music, a spiritual and artistic tradition that blends sub-Saharan African roots with Moroccan Sufi rituals. Since the 1990s, El Kasri became a regular at the Essaouira Gnawa and World Music Festival, which transformed into a global platform for Gnawa music. His performances there attracted international attention, leading to collaborations with world-renowned artists including Jo Zawinul, Marcus Miller, Snarky Puppy, Jacob Collier, Fatoumata Diawara and Oumou Sangaré just to name a few Hamid El Kasri has toured extensively, performing in Europe, North America, Oceania, Africa, and the Middle East.
