Hamid El Kasri (born 1961 in Ksar El Kebir, Morocco) is one of the most acclaimed Maâlems (master musicians) of Gnawa music, a spiritual and artistic tradition that blends sub-Saharan African roots with Moroccan Sufi rituals. Since the 1990s, El Kasri became a regular at the Essaouira Gnawa and World Music Festival, which transformed into a global platform for Gnawa music.
