Underground σχήμα experimental jazz
Helicopets are an experimental jazz quartet led by guitarist Adam Baran, featuring bass clarinetist Magdalena Sowul, drummer Józef Biegański, and bassist Roman Chraniuk. The band’s music draws from the legacy of jazz avant-garde, electronic music, trip-hop, and ambient. Helicopets juxtapose spacious ballads with noise-driven and electronic improvisations, moving freely between structure and controlled chaos. In 2024, the quartet made its live debut at the Jazz Juniors Festival in Kraków, where they received five special awards. These distinctions led to an extensive European tour in 2025. The band performed at venues and festivals such as the NOSPR Concert Hall in Katowice, Jazz Fest Brno, Opus Jazz Club in Budapest, Jazz in the Vineyard in Croatia, and completed an artistic residency in Aalborg, awarded by Jazz Danmark. In April 2026, Helicopets released their debut album (fully at bandcamp.helicopets.com only ! and available on vinyl) titled HELICOPETER. In addition to Adam Baran and Magdalena Sowul, the album features a Norwegian rhythm section: drummer Sigurd Steinkopf, bassist Jone Kuven, as well as electronic music producer Paweł Rychert.
