Νοσταλγικός, underground καλλιτέχνης swing music
Hetty Kate is a jazz vocalist who makes people feel at home - whether she's singing in a Paris jazz club, on a festival stage in Japan, or with a full symphony orchestra. Her voice is warm, her timing is sharp, and she trusts the song to carry the story. Marc Myers of Jazzwax described her as being "like Peggy Lee on a Vespa." Born in England, raised in Melbourne, Hetty Kate spent five years touring with Australian jazz luminary James Morrison, including being the featured vocalist for his award-winning orchestral production The A to Z of Jazz which toured with symphonies across three continents. Eleven albums have followed, covering a lot of ground - from Western Swing to Lounge Exotica to the intimate Paris trio sessions of Under Paris Skies, which reached number two on the Japanese Jazz Charts. What stays constant is a deep respect for melody, lyric and the audience, and an approach a US critic described as that of "an intuitive jeweller who knows how to present even the smallest stone so that it gleams memorably." Now based in Paris and touring internationally, Hetty's current project Jazz in Four Seasons is a four-album series — each recorded in a different city, in a different season, with local musicians. Volume 1, Spring, was recorded in Prague with Czech jazz musicians and is out now. The next three seasons are on the way.
Hetty Kate performs vocal jazz and 1930s and 1940s swing standards, drawing inspiration from the Great American Songbook and bop.
Hetty Kate is based in Paris, France, after growing up in England and Australia.
