Jenni Roditi

Jenni Roditi is known as a skilled vocal improviser. Her collaboration with acclaimed pianist Cassie Yukawa-McBurney is her first release as an improvising artist. Jenni's compositions include two full-length chamber operas; ‘The Descent of Inanna’ and ‘Siddhartha-Spirit Child’, for Lontano. The operas employ classical and non-classical singers and are noted for their ardent lyricism. Jenni has written orchestral, choral and chamber work and songs in contemporary extended vocal technique idiom. She studied Indian vocal music at the Asian Music Summer School for several years. Jenni is a highly experienced voice workshop leader, with her own modality - Vocal Tai Chi. In 2015 she founded The Improvisers' Choir which she conducts using special hand signals. The choir won first prize at Nonclassical Battle of the Bands 2018. Her music has been performed by the Crouch End Festival Chorus, Genesis 16, The Schoenberg Symphony Orchestra, The Westbrook Band, The Smith Quartet, No Strings Attached, Electric Phoenix, Guildhall Symphony Orchestra, Notes Inégales, Shiva Nova, Ignite Ensemble, Lontano, The Homemade Orchestra, Trittico Trio and others. Jenni has worked at the Guildhall as a specialist voice teacher as part of a research project into adult non-singers. She is currently finishing off a full-length music-film 'Land Mass', recorded with her choir and developed in collaboration with filmmaker Sara Pozin. It will be previewed on May 1st on zoom.
