You Is You Flutist Joe Melnicove presents his first album as a leader, joined by his mentor, saxophonist George Garzone. The two share a special bond and a unique approach to sound and improvisation. They are joined by the legendary Billy Hart(drums) and Ben Street (bass), a mystical rhythm section who expertly form an uncanny feeling of broken, yet entirely whole sense of time and rhythm. YOU IS YOU is about one’s understanding and acceptance of the self. When you accept who you are, you are free to be. YOU IS YOU encapsulates this notion with its raw and unapologetic atmosphere. The title tune was written in the midst of the first Covid-19 wave. While staying at his childhood home in Rosh Pinna, Joe quickly recorded a melody he came up with on his phone. It’s an unimaginable idea during lockdown that a year later, that melody would be recorded alongside three musicians of the highest caliber. And yet, things have a way of lining up - While catching up shortly after the songs early draft, Joe mentioned to Garzone an upcoming visit to New York. Garzone gladly set up the recording session, and YOU IS YOU was conceived.
