Underground καλλιτέχνης contemporary jazz
Following his 2020 debut-album Wheel of Life with ingenious pianist Stephan Plecher it becomes clear Julian Hesse is always looking for new ways and means to expand his musical message. He now turns to the art of playing the trio and – together with Slovak bassplayer Peter Čudek and drummer Sebastian Wolfgruber – creates an individualistic sound while focusing on rhythmic interaction. Playing a kind of hypermodern hardbop the band celebrates the interdependency of strictness of form and the freedom within. It doesn’t happen often that a trumpetplayer voluntarily chooses a trio without a harmony-instrument given the strenuous work one has to put in. Following his improvisational abilities one can actually hear a composer at work. After all, that’s what troubleshooting is about: creating musical solutions and ideas in an instant.
Julian Hesse plays contemporary jazz and hypermodern hard bop, featuring a minimalist trumpet trio format focused on intricate rhythmic interaction.
