Julie Square

Julie Square, based in Brooklyn, NY, makes dystopian synth rock as a soundtrack to the end of the world. Her sonic palette draws from years of classical piano training, growing up as an emo kid in St. Louis, and a decade of turning knobs on the Korg MS20. Having written music since early high school, she blends an innate intuition for songwriting with a curiosity for a wide range of genres, including 90’s grunge and alternative, 60’s girl groups, and electroclash. Her collaboration with Will Butler (the Grammy-winning, Oscar-nominated artist formerly of Arcade Fire), with whom she’s made music since 2014, sharpened her interest and skills in synthesizers, lyrical world-building, and performance. As a member of his backing band Sister Squares, Julie has toured the world, played Late Night, and recorded 4 albums.
