Katarina Palova

Slovak pianist and chamber musician Katarína Palová approaches performance as a creative act and the concert stage as a space for exploration. In her artistic vision, music resists fixed meanings; instead, it remains an open, evolving process, continually reshaped by time, context and the encounter with the listener. This perspective naturally forms her deep affinity for the music of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, where her work lies at the intersection of performance, artistic programming and close collaboration with living composers. A distinctive place in her repertoire belongs to rarely performed and rediscovered works, which she presents within thoughtfully conceived programmes that offer audiences a unique listening experience. Katarína’s interpretation has been described as “not only interpretatively precise, but also highly communicative, with a wide expressive range from intimate, quiet passages to dramatically intense climaxes, all delivered with absolute control and structural clarity” (ISCM Slovak Section). Alongside the broader classical piano repertoire, central to her artistic focus are works by Samuil Feinberg, Nikolai Roslavets, Giacinto Scelsi, Jean Guillou, Valentin Bibik, Toru Takemitsu, and Tõnu Kõrvits, as well as an evolving body of new works and premieres in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, developed in close collaboration with Slovak composers including Jana Kmiťová, Robert Kolář, Peter Machajdík, Milan Pala, and Anton Steinecker.
