Kenny Warren

Trumpeter/composer Kenny Warren grew up in Denver, studied jazz at SUNY Purchase and has lived in NYC since 2006. He has made over a dozen records as a bandleader and solo artist. “..a powerful set of immaculate performances displaying real integrity, good humor and muscular imagination.."Jazz Views. As a side person he has contributed to countless recordings and played festivals all around the world. He is a member of Grammy Nominated Stephan Crump’s Slow Water, and of the Angelica Sanchez Nonet whose record Nighttime Creatures was chosen as one of the "Best recordings in 2023" Downbeat Magazine. Warren is also a longstanding member of brass band Slavic Soul Party who has held a weekly residency at Barbès in Brooklyn for over 20 years. His latest project, Sweet World features Nathan Ellman-Bell on drums and Christopher Hoffman on cello. Their debut LP comes out on Out of Your Head Records in May 2024. Hoffman is one of the world's foremost improvising cellists and is a member of Pulitzer Prize winner Henry Threadgil’s band Zooid. Ellman-Bell is one of NYC’s most versatile and in-demand drummers. Warren’s music draws inspiration from Black American music, folk and classical music traditions around the world, and the global improvisational music scene. He has found his voice with help from his vibrant community of musicians in Brooklyn, and with wisdom from his childhood trumpet heroes in Denver, Ron Miles, Greg Gisbert and Al Hood.
