Kossi Mawun began his career in his church’s musical ensembles, which laid the foundation for his interest in jazz. Mentored by Dano Ella, he discovered iconic jazz figures such as Billy Cobham and Miles Davis, Art Blakey, Elvin Jones who influenced his musical style. Kossi made a name for himself on the Lomé jazz scene, performing at the Mandingué Jazz Club and collaborating with renowned local artists. His mastery of percussion earned him the nickname “Kossi Percu”. His music fuses jazz with traditional cultural influences from southern Togo and polyphonies from Central Africa. Today, Kossi is considered a key player in jazz, recognized for his innovative approach that blends deeply.
