Ντόπιος, underground καλλιτέχνης garage punk
United in a shared admiration of Nick Cave, The Velvet Underground, Billy Childish and The Pretenders, NYC’s Leathered were founded in 2010 by singer and guitarist Amanda B. Jun as a project for the scraps of riffs and songs she’d developed over the years. The band’s warmly received debut album, Restless (released under their former moniker, Crazy Pills, by attention space cadets), was produced by Psychic TV’s Jeff Berner. Live, the band's driving rhythmic force and Jun’s dynamic, searing lead presence led to slots on the Village Voice 4 Knots Festival and sets opening for Guitar Wolf, PUP, Marnie Stern and other contemporaries in garage and punk. After a line-up shift in late 2019, the trio crystallized and rechristened themselves as Leathered, integrating Jun's dark but buoyant vocals and fretwork into the taut rhythmic stylings of bassist Edward Anthony and percussionist Carter Logan (also of SQÜRL). Their 2022 full length, A Reckoning (attention space cadets), united the band with Berner. Upon its release, it has been featured as a Bandcamp “New and Notables” for its "[b]lown-out, blissed-out, near-shoegazey rock & roll from this great Brooklyn group, clanging guitars and gigantic melodies" and described by The Big Takeover as “freewheeling and resonant...spirited rock ’n’ roll with kicky Americana twang, along with some charming melodic pop numbers.”
Leathered plays a blend of garage punk, post-punk, and shoegaze, characterized by driving rhythms and melodic yet raw guitar work.
