Leo Lovechild

Leo Lovechild was born on the Lower East Side of Manhattan with songs seeping through his veins. The great-great-nephew of seminal American songwriter Irving Berlin, Lovechild was first introduced to music by his maternal grandfather, Eugene Becker, a long-time violist in the New York Philharmonic. After falling in love with artists like Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan in the back seat of his parents’ VW Golf, he started writing his own songs. Playing in clubs and coffeeshops by the 10th grade, he even shared the stage with the late Pete Seeger while still in high school, opening for the folk hero at a benefit concert in Dobbs Ferry, NY. Now a veteran of the New York music scene, Lovechild’s journey has taken him from the subway cars of the East Village to the highways of America to the pubs of London, cutting his teeth as both a bandleader and a solo performer in venues, dive bars, and at music festivals both near and far. He’s known for his sharp-witted and poignant lyricism, his smoky and emotive vocal performances, and perhaps above all else, his dedication to honing an authentic voice in the midst of a culture that seems to grow less and less earnest by the minute. While Lovechild has dabbled in a wide variety of genres over his career, he sings with a voice that’s uniquely and unmistakably his, weaving poetry with doses of sardonic wisdom, whether it’s country, rock & roll, folk, indie, or anything else.
