Underground σχήμα baroque pop
"If only all pop music was this elegant, this eloquent, this infectious, this damn unique. If Lovina Falls makes pop music, it is pop that has elevated itself to a higher plane; high above chart pretensions, fads, and fashion, pop music that is both posed and poignant. This is music as art, art as music." (The Big Takeover, June 2025) Described as "joyfully unclassifiable" and "elegant baroque pop drama" by The Boston Globe, Lovina Falls was founded by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Valerie Forgione, formerly of Boston's Mistle Thrush. Their art rock-meets-dark dreampop sound defies classification, blending post punk instrumentation with lush harmonies and a mix of electronic & organic textures. The Globe’s Steve Morse wrote Forgione has “some of the most versatile pipes since the dream-pop heyday of Kate Bush”, and her vocals draw comparisons to Bat For Lashes, Fiona Apple, & the Cocteau Twins. Lovina Falls' debut LP 'Calculating the Angle of Our Descent' was called “a soundtrack to a wonderland where the Bohemians, goths, punks, and dreamers took over” by The Boston Herald. The new EP, ‘Would That It Were’, was spotlighted in SPIN magazine & features Mistle Thrush alumni Alice Lee Scott, Matt Klain, and drummer Todd Demma (now with Chameleons UK), and delivers “layered sound, emotional depth, and genre-bending artistry”. In its earlier Mistle Thrush lineup, the band shared stages with icons The Strokes, Slowdive, Sonic Youth, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, & Lush.
