Marvin Thompson Jr. is a keyboardist, producer and songwriter who fuses jazz, soul, pop and gospel. Born in Detroit, he started playing piano at 9, and his musical tastes grew early on. He became a musician for his church at 11, and was soon exposed to an array of sounds in gospel, while becoming a student of early jazz and the musical influences of the 70’s and 80’s. He soon assembled a group of fellow musicians and begin performing as the Marvin Thompson Jr. Trio. His first commercial release, In Focus in 2007, is a collection of original songs along with a cover of The Beatles Eleanor Rigby. 2017 saw the release of Kind Words which featured the single Just The Two of Us, a cover of the classic Bill Withers anthem. In 2018 Marvin released Holiday Piano, an EP of solo piano Christmas songs. Performing with the likes of jazz guitarist Tim Bowman and various members of the gospel music family The Winans, Marvin is the recipient of the Billboard Songwriting Award and the John Lennon Songwriting Award.
