Musica Florea

Musica Florea was established in 1992 by the cellist and conductor Marek Štryncl as a trailblazing feat in the advancement of the historically informed interpretation of music in the Czech Republic. The ensemble’s repertoire ranges from instrumental chamber music, sacred and secular vocal-instrumental works, or orchestral concertos to monumental symphonic and operatic compositions and oratorios from the Baroque period to the twentieth century. From the very outset, Musica Florea has been invited to prominent festivals around the globe and has collaborated with world-class soloists and ensembles (such as M. Kožená, Ph. Jaroussky, N. Argenta, V. Gens, Peter Kooij, Le Poème Harmonique, etc.); it has also received a number of prestigious awards (such as Diapason d’Or, Cannes Classical Award, etc.). The ensemble also initiates the production of operas and ballets, especially from the Baroque era, often in modern-day premieres (such as J. J. Fux’s opera Costanza e Fortezza, or Muzio Scevola, an opera by G. F. Handel, F. Bononcini, and F. Amadei that was performed at the Händel-Festspielle, etc.). In 2014 the ensemble helped create the unique portable Baroque theatre Florea Theatrum, built according to period designs. Musica Florea performs extensive oratorios and Mass settings in cooperation with its own choir, Collegium Floreum, which was also founded by Marek Štryncl, who serves as choirmaster.
