NDR Vokalensemble

The NDR Vokalensemble stands for excellent ensemble singing. A cappella works from the Renaissance to the modern era form the artistic core of the ensemble. The work of the NDR Vokalensemble (formerly the NDR Choir) is characterised by a richly nuanced sonority and sensitivity to the styles of different musical eras. Its musical range is reflected in the subscription series founded in 2009: the ensemble's musical spectrum ranges from a cappella concerts to ‘Missa concertata’, from Baroque to Romanticism to the present day. Since the 18'19 season, the Dutchman Klaas Stok has been chief conductor of the NDR Vokalensemble. As a permanent partner of the NDR orchestras and concert series, the NDR Vokalensemble frequently collaborates with other ARD orchestras and leading early and contemporary music ensembles as well as with international symphony orchestras. Conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Marcus Creed, Paul Hillier, Mariss Jansons, Paavo Järvi, Tõnu Kaljuste, Stephen Layton, Andris Nelsons and Sir Roger Norrington provide the ensemble with artistic impulses. The NDR Vokalensemble is a regular guest at festivals such as the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, the Göttingen International Handel Festival, the Anima Mundi Festival in Pisa and at international concert halls such as the Théâtre des Champs-Elysèes in Paris. Selected concerts are broadcast within the European Broadcasting Union or published as CDs.
