Underground καλλιτέχνης power pop
Just as comfortable playing your friend’s basement as they are on stages like Brooklyn Made, Baby’s All Right, TV Eye, and Mercury Lounge, Nihiloceros has toured across the U.S. and Canada playing festivals from Punk Island to SXSW to Warped Tour. Mike Borchardt (guitar/vox) and Alex Hoffman (bass/vox) crossed paths over a decade ago playing in bands in Chicago and Alaska. The pair struck up a collaborative creative friendship in Brooklyn, NY with Glenn Gentzke now rounding out the trio and bringing with him a fresh dynamism behind the kit. With a shared penchant for loud guitars, cool rhythms, and sad pop melodies, they now write music together about the imminent evolutionary unraveling of the human condition and the absurdity of the end of the world. Nihiloceros is a nice and noisy band from New York. Think raucous punk pop* with a heavy dose of grunge goodness. For an elevated mood, blast their s/t album below. That’s because at the root of the music are two driving principles: energy and honesty. -Brightest Young Things (Washington DC) Probably the only band with a song called “A.N.U.S.” that lists Jawbreaker as its primary influence. —A.V. Club (Chicago, IL)
