Ofir Ganon

Ofir Ganon’s former identity as live music purist has meant that up to this point his audience has been constrained to the memories of their ambient, collective effervescence. Since moving to New York City in 2004, he has created a community around shared reverence for the form, collaborating with the likes of Arto Lindsay, Deerhoof’s Greg Saunier, and Janka Nabay to name a few, all while creating genre-spanning projects from free improv groups to solo compositions. After twenty years of steadily playing for live audiences and supporting his peers’ projects through production or performance, Ganon has found how to impart the in-person on his new solo effort Same Air, a hypnotic suite that transcends the studio shaped barrier between listener and performer. The origin of Ganon’s style comes from his first memories of music: the prayer tunes sung by Jewish-Moroccan farmers in his village whose call-and-response worship was their pathway to divinity in an ever-changing environment. The celestial harmony of a melodic canon carrying on the story of a community defined by its devotion and resilience exposed Ganon to the magic of musical spontaneity.
