Ossian

Formed in 1986 by vocalist Endre Paksi (formerly of Pokolgép) and guitarist Zoltán Maróthy, Ossian quickly became a cornerstone of Hungarian heavy metal. Their debut album Acélszív (Steel Heart) established them as pioneers of the genre. The band’s first era culminated in 1994 with the release of their sixth album, Emberi dolgok (Human Matters), a deeply personal record highlighting Paksi’s songwriting excellence and vocal range. Soon after that, Ossian called it a day after a sold-out farewell concert at Petőfi Hall. In 1998, to mark the 10th anniversary of Acélszív, Paksi organized a commemorative concert at E-Klub. The overwhelming response led him to revive Ossian with a new lineup. A live album from the show and the comeback studio record Fémzene (Metal Music) were both released in 1999, signaling a new era. A major turning point came with Titkos ünnep (Secret Celebration, 2001), which reconnected the band with long-time fans and drew in a new generation. Between 1999 and 2009, Ossian released almost one album per year, consistently ranking on the MAHASZ charts. Though the band had long-standing national success, official Gold and Platinum certifications came only with 2013’s A tűz jegyében (In the Sign of Fire). Since then, multiple albums have surpassed these milestones. With an enduring legacy and unwavering fanbase, Ossian remains a defining, standalone force in Hungarian metal.
