Detroit runs in her blood, but Rimarkable has always belonged to something larger. A first-generation Afro-Puerto Rican DJ, producer, vocalist, songwriter, and cultural force, she was shaped by the sacred intersection of gospel and jazz, Detroit techno and Chicago house, and every Black and brown tradition that ever dared to make the body move and the spirit follow. Her sound does not simply fill a room. It transforms one, conjuring gospel, funk, soul, house, and techno into something that stops being music halfway through and becomes ceremony. Since her debut in the late 1990s, Rimarkable has lit up stages alongside George Clinton, Madonna, Erykah Badu, Louie Vega, Danny Tenaglia, Honey Dijon, Pete Tong, and Roger Sanchez, carrying herself with the quiet authority of someone who knows exactly why she was put in the room. She is a host of the Defected Radio Show, reaching listeners across the globe each week, and brings that same depth of vision into the classroom as Adjunct Professor at NYU's Clive Davis Institute and instructor at the Underground Music Academy in Detroit, where her acclaimed course, "Alchemy of the DJ," explores music as ritual, liberation, and living business. As founder and head of Betty Jean's Dream, her independent label rooted in the spirit of the woman who first showed her what music could do, she is now building the next chapter on her own terms.
