Rū Kai plays alternative rock, post-punk, grunge - built more for the room than a playlist. After years of touring and recording across diverse musical worlds, London guitarist Tal Janes found himself at a crossroads in 2025.

After years of touring and recording across diverse musical worlds, London guitarist Tal Janes found himself at a crossroads in 2025. Being confronted with a profound call for renewal, he expanded his world into nature, community and history whilst simultaneously re-connecting with the grunge and post-punk sounds from his youth. Discovering his voice for the first time during this period, a new set of heavy and stripped back songs emerged, all with a more honest, raw and urgent sound. Cementing this new identity, 'Rū Kai' was born. With a new band of collaborators behind him, including drummer Jamie Houghton (Tom Misch/Alfa Mist) and bassist Daisy George (Naomi Scott/Tom Ford), the debut EP 'Reverence' from Rū Kai is set for release in November 2026.
