The Volunteered Slaves are a dynamic French jazz collective known for their vibrant fusion of jazz, funk, and afro-electronic sounds. Formed in 2002 at the Jazz in Marciac festival, their music blends intricate instrumental arrangements with powerful grooves and occasional vocal collaborations. They draw inspiration from the legacy of jazz while infusing it with contemporary energy and diverse influences.
They play a dynamic blend of jazz fusion, jazz funk, and afro-electronic music, often featuring both instrumental and vocal tracks.
The current members include Emmanuel Duprey on piano/Rhodes/synth, Akim Bournane on bass, Olivier Temime on saxophone, Fred Dupont on keyboards, and Tilo Bertholo on drums.
