Torture and the Desert Spiders

Started in London in 2019 and based in Liverpool, UK until relocating to Brooklyn in 2023 where the project is still currently based and making their debut record + kicking it in the city. Torture and the Desert Spiders is a garage rock project based on the songwriting of Anna Kunz aka Torture. Heavily inspired by artists such as Sinead O Connor, Karen Dalton, The Modern Lovers, Wilco and Fugazi, and more recently Silver Jews and Elliot Smith; Torture’s writing is heavily lyrical and ranges from folk-tinged solo performances to searing full band shows. Notably, the project has supported the likes of Lime Garden, Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Crawlers, Starcrawler, Enola Gaye, Mattiel, His Lordship (of the Pretenders) and has performed at Kendal Calling Festival (2022, 2023), for Spinn Magazine / Lipps Service with Hamilton Leithauser / Gogol Bordello. . The project currently has an ongoing solo residency featuring a curation of Torture’s favorite songwriters at Baker Falls on Allen Street in NYC- nearly 40 weeks going and not looking to stop anytime soon.
