Underground σχήμα avant-garde
Tub Ring is a band that rewards adventurous listeners as elements of punk, noise, new wave, world, experimental, rock, and pop collide alongside lyrics exploring grand cosmological theories and themes. Emerging from Chicago’s indie scenes, Tub Ring instantly set themselves apart with a distinctive, frenzied blurring of genres inspired by boundary pushing acts such as Radiohead, Tom Waits, and Dead Kennedys. The band quickly established a reputation as an explosive live act as they voraciously synthesized more styles into their unique sound, releasing a number of EPs in the process. The group caught the attention of Mr. Bungle and Secret Chiefs 3 member Trey Spruance, who went on to produce their first album, Drake Equation, further honing the careening, hairpin genre swerves that had become their signature. Touring relentlessly, often with like-minded acts including Foxy Shazam and Mindless Self Indulgence, Tub Ring built a dedicated following not only in the U.S., but also in Japan and throughout Europe and Canada. During this time they released albums on Invisible Records (2004’s Zoo Hypothesis) and The End Records (2007’s The Great Filter and 2010’s Secret Handshakes). After a hiatus Tub Ring's current era began with 2017's A Choice of Catastrophes and then 2024's Last and First Men Tub Ring is Kevin Gibson, Rob Kleiner, Mike Gilmore, Patrick Windsor, Sean Motley, Mark Vasquez , Matt Finn
