Walty & Malik

Walty & Malik are a gothy duo based in Los Angeles, born and raised. They were friends before they were old enough to talk and have a history of musical ventures together. From this duo, one can expect authoritative vocals with puzzling lyrics, surgical guitar, gritty bass, spacey synths, and grinding industrial drums all glued in a warm mix. Combine that sound with the visual presentation of dark cloaks with sunglasses at night surrounded by neon lights, and you have the distinct spectacle that is Walty & Malik. Walty's background as a singer is rooted in competitive vocal jazz, while his production is heavily tied to his profession as a live+studio audio engineer. Malik brings precise guitar work and a facility for modal textures that compliment the dense, atmospheric sound in a unique way. Both Walty & Malik were raised taking private lessons at the Silverlake Conservatory of Music, as well as music running in their respective families. Malik is the nephew of Arik Marshall (Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Lonnie Marshall (Weapon of Choice), while Walty is the son of Dirty Walt (Fishbone).
