Xavier Polycarpe’s music is a journey — a playground where instinct, passion, and sincerity collide. A multi-instrumentalist and producer, he first made his mark with Gush, whose two acclaimed albums, a nomination at the Victoires de la Musique, and international tours established them as a standout act on the French rock scene. Later, with Macadam Crocodile, he embraced a rawer, dance-driven energy, blending electro and disco influences into electrifying live performances. Today, he opens a new chapter with his solo project. Following Minute, his debut EP released in 2023 — whose title track was featured in Un p'tit truc en plus by Artus — he now unveils Instant, a collection of songs like sonic snapshots, capturing fragments of life in a constantly shifting world. While Minute and Instant mirror each other like two sides of the same album, they are above all connected by a common thread: time, cycles, and the emotions flowing through them. The Instant EP surprises with its musical diversity and rich arrangements. It moves from rougher 70s/80s-inspired sounds on “She Cut a Rug,” driven by raw energy and a deep, gritty vocal delivery, to the timeless intimacy of “Deux ailes à Ella,” which begins with a delicate piano-and-vocal arrangement to evoke the transcendent experience of parenthood.
Xavier Polycarpe plays retro-infused indie pop and danceable alternative grooves, drawing on his background with French bands Gush and Macadam Crocodile.
His notable solo releases include his debut EP Minute and the follow-up project Instant.
