A Seattle, Washington-based melodic doom unit in the vein of heavy atmosphere-wielders like Jucifer, Helms Alee, Sleep, and Chelsea Wolfe, Year of the Cobra is a power duo based around the talents of bassist/guitarist vocalist Amy Tung Barrysmith and drummer Jon Barrysmith. Formed in 2015, the band released their debut EP, The Black Sun, shortly after inception. The record caught the attention of STB Records, which brought in Billy Anderson (Swans, Melvins, Neurosis) to produce their full-length debut, 2016's ...In the Shadows Below. A second EP, Burn Your Dead, arrived the following year, this time via Magnetic Eye Records, and in 2019 the band issued their sophomore full-length effort, Ash and Dust. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
