Samir LanGus Gnawa Jazz Quartet
Underground βραδιά gnawa
Experience an evening where the hypnotic rhythms of Gnawa music meet the freedom and spontaneity of jazz. Led by Grammy-nominated artist Samir LanGus, this dynamic quartet brings together master musicians to weave traditional Moroccan Gnawa grooves with modern jazz improvisation. Born and raised in Morocco, LanGus was immersed in the Gnawa spiritual trance tradition from a young age, studying under master Maalems like Hamid El Kasri. Now based in New York City, he uses the sintir—a three-stringed bass lute—to explore new frontiers of sound that honor centuries-old traditions while embracing contemporary innovation. Driven by the pulse of the guembri and rich rhythmic textures, the performance offers a soulful, energetic, and transcendent journey through the universal language of rhythm.
