ISSUE Project Room celebrates the 20th Anniversary of its Artists-In-Residence (AIR) program throughout 2026 with a performance by 2012 AIR alumni Sergei Tcherepnin. The artist presents an entirely new work for the Serge Modular synthesizer, an instrument developed by his uncle Serge Tcherepnin in 1973. This modular system continues to inform his work across sound, sculpture, and performance. Incorporating elements of noise, trance, and minimalism, the piece unfolds as an intense urban landscape where densely layered harmonies collide with shimmering noise. The performance builds on the artist's longstanding interest in the material and psychological effects of sound, exploring concepts of queer sound and listening that transcend pure materiality and touch upon socially coded perceptions.
