Following a performance of the St John Passion in February, Sir Simon Rattle leads the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra in Bach's monumental St Matthew Passion. Rattle, who began his career championing contemporary and romantic repertoires, has increasingly turned toward historically informed performances. This production features tenor Reinoud Van Mechelen as the Evangelist in a work known for its dramatic power and rich variety of styles and timbres.
